What Are Lifting Slings?

Lifting slings are the most important component in the handling process because of their ability to firmly fasten to loads during lifting. They come in several forms, and each is appropriate for specific lifting needs. Furthermore, a range of materials are used to make lifting slings, and each type has unique advantages. At The Ratchet Shop, you can select the ideal sling for your requirements based on the load and the surrounding conditions, guaranteeing effective and safe lifting.

Types of Lifting Slings

Webbing Slings (Flat Polyester Slings)

Our webbing slings are ideal for handling delicate and sensitive surfaces because of their strength, flexibility, and longevity. Made entirely of high-quality polyester, these lifting strops offer great resistance to scratching, UV rays, and moisture, assuring a long lifespan even in harsh conditions.

Our webbing slings come in flat shape with reinforced becket eyes to improve load distribution and lessen pressure points on the object being lifted. Moreover, we recommend our lifting strops for lifting furniture, warehousing, and handling fragile or polished surfaces. Our polyester slings are built to last. They resist oil, grease, and most acids, making them tough and reliable. Plus, they won’t rot or weaken in water, so you can count on them in any condition.

Most importantly, we offer slings with weight limits from 1,000kg to 10,000kg. Each one is color-coded based on its strength rating, so you can easily pick the right one for the job. Need different sizes? We also have webbing slings in various lengths to match your requirements.

Heavyweight Webbing Slings (Above 3,000kg)

Heavy duty webbing slings, are perfect for carrying large and heavy loads. They are also ideal for towing big objects like vehicles. Tasks that would normally be difficult and tiring become much easier with these durable slings.

One of their biggest advantages is that they are much more flexible and lightweight than traditional lifting chains. Their soft and adaptable design makes storage simple and helps reduce the impact of sudden loads when securing items. Unlike metal alternatives, these slings don’t pose the same risk of injury, making them a safer option.

Used across various industries, heavy-lifting straps are essential for anyone involved in lifting or towing. They are commonly used in boat handling, freight, construction, cargo transport, drilling, logging, heating unit installation, and offshore oilfield work.

Our range of Heavyweight Webbing Slings (above 3,000kg) includes five weight limits:

Each sling is clearly labelled with its weight limit and comes in a specific colour, making it easy to choose the right one for the job.

For added safety, every heavy-duty sling we offer has a safety factor of 7 times its Working Load Limit (W.L.L), meeting the BSEN 1492-1:2000 performance standards. They also have reinforced stitching for a longer lifespan.

Our heavy-lifting straps are built to last. Made from 100% high-tenacity polyester, they resist oil, grease, and most acids, ensuring durability even in tough working conditions.

Lightweight Webbing Slings (Below 3,000kg)

At The Ratchet Shop, our lightweight webbing slings and flexible alternative to lifting chains, and their slight stretch helps absorb shocks during lifting. These slings are perfect for tasks that require a secure and gentle lift, such as moving delicate equipment, or materials that could be damaged by the rigidity of traditional lifting chains.

Our lightweight webbing slings (under 3,000kg) come in three weight limits:

Made from 100% high-tenacity polyester, they are strong, durable, and flexible. They also resist oil, grease, and most acids, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Each sling has its weight limit clearly printed on it and is color-coded for quick and easy identification. All our slings comply with BSEN 1492-1:2000 standards and come with certification for safety and reliability.

Round Slings (Endless Soft Slings)

Our round slings are made from continuous high-strength polyester fibres, forming smooth, endless loops that provide superior flexibility and load-bearing capacity. By distributing weight evenly and limiting pressure points, their soft, cushioned form lowers the possibility of damaging polished or fragile surfaces.

This highlights that our round slings are perfect for lifting huge cargo, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery because of their excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Their resilience to fraying and durability guarantees a prolonged lifespan even under demanding conditions.

No matter the task, whether you're lifting something heavy or towing a lighter load, our lifting sling straps have got you covered. They come in various sizes, ranging from 1000kg to 8000kg, ensuring you always have the right tool for the job. Plus, to make identification easier, each sling is color-coded based on its weight limit.

Our round lifting slings, also called endless slings, are made from strong yet lightweight polyester. Many people prefer polyester slings over chains or wire ropes because they are easier to handle and position. They also help protect the items being lifted by reducing the risk of damage.

Lightweight Round Slings (Below 3,000kg)

Our round slings are a useful substitute for conventional lifting chains because they are composed entirely of high-tenacity polyester, which provides remarkable strength without sacrificing weight.

We provide five weight limit options for our lightweight round slings (below 3,000kg).

Each sling is resistant to oil, grease, and most acids, ensuring durability in tough environments. They also meet the strict performance standards of BSEN 1492-1:2000 and come with full certification for safety and reliability.

To make lifting operations easier, every lifting sling strap has its weight limit clearly printed and is color-coded according to its capacity. This makes it quick and simple to choose the right sling for the job, reducing the risk of overloading.

Our lightweight round slings are trusted across industries like construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, where safe and efficient load handling is essential. Whether you need to lift, tow, or secure heavy objects, our slings provide the strength and reliability you can count on!

Heavyweight Round Slings (Above 3,000kg)

Our heavy duty round lifting slings are designed to lift loads above 3,000 kg with maximum safety and durability. Made from high-strength synthetic fibres, these slings provide excellent load distribution, reducing pressure points and minimising the risk of damage to delicate surfaces. Their flexibility allows for easy handling and secure lifting, making them ideal for heavy industrial applications, construction sites, and shipyards.

Our heavyweight round slings, with weight limits above 3,000kg, are available in two options.

At The Ratchet Shop our round slings are resistant to abrasions, chemicals, and extreme weather conditions, ensuring long-lasting performance in tough environments. With color-coded identification and load capacity markings, they simplify the selection process for various lifting needs.

How to Choose the Right Lifting Sling?

  • There are various important aspects to consider while choosing a lifting sling. First, you need to take into account the weight of the load and its SWL to make sure the sling can perform the task securely. Your choice of sling is also influenced by the lifting technique, such as vertical, basket, or choker hitch.
  • Another important factor to take into account is material appropriateness since slings composed of various materials have differing degrees of flexibility, corrosion protection, and abrasion resistance.
  • Additionally, certain materials, such as stainless steel, may need to be used due to environmental conditions like exposure to chemicals or dampness. Lastly, confirm that your sling satisfies all applicable industry standards, such as LOLER, CE, and ISO safety requirements.

Lifting Sling Safety & Regulations

In order to guarantee safe use, our lifting slings must adhere to safety standards and laws. They need to be routinely examined and marked with the SWL. Before using, it is crucial to inspect for damage, such as fraying in round and webbing slings, corrosion in chain slings, and distortion in wire rope slings.

At TRS we make sure that SWL labels are visible so that you can use the proper hitch technique to maintain load stability. Other than this we also kept our lifting slings safe for use through routine inspection and compliance with regulations like LOLER and EN 1492.

Custom Lifting Slings & Bespoke Solutions

We also offer custom lifting slings for various jobs. By adding custom fittings like hooks, shackles, or soft eyes, our slings can be made to the necessary length and load capacity. In order to meet the requirements of their industrial applications, customers can also select materials like synthetic fibres, stainless steel, or galvanised steel.
