The Ratchet Shop at The Great Dorset Steam Fair

There’s only a few days to go until the Great Dorset Steam Fair. The Great Dorset show is the largest vintage steam show of its kind in the world, attracting 200,000 visitors, and has been running since 1969. A great family day out, the fair is held in the quaint village of Tarrant Hinton, situated in Blandford, Dorset.

The fair boasts a large 600 acre showground, meaning there is absolutely something for everyone. There are plenty of marquees, exhibits and displays to see, including: military vehicles, monster truck displays, steam lorries, motorbike displays, heavy horse displays, classic cars, vintage engines, tractors, and farm equipment and so much more. There is also live music, with six different stages to suit everyone, and plenty of craft stalls for shopping.

The fair is renowned for its steam roller and traction engine performance displays, where the machines drive ploughs, saw planks, haul loads and much, much more. Another star of the Great Dorset Steam Fair show is the steam-driven funfair, which is maintained and operated by 50 showmen. The fair looks glorious once the sun has gone down, with the archaic carousels truly coming to life at night.

Whether you’re a steam enthusiast, or fancy a fun day out in the Dorset countryside, there’s over 500 stalls and a wealth of entertainment to keep you occupied for hours. You will be able to find us on our stall too, so come and say hello! The Great Dorset Steam Fair will be running from Thursday 25th August until Monday 29th August 2016, and you can buy your tickets here!
